We’re Going to Regionals!

#TBT – 2012 Regionals Team on the Podium.. Games Bound!

Keepin’ the Streak Alive: We’re Heading Back to Regionals!

After a long year of training and five hard weeks of Open workouts, we are psyched to announce that CrossFit Southie will be representing at the East Regional for the seventh year! Last year we missed out on the competition by ONE point, so we are psyched to be returning!

Only the top 20 teams in the Region are invited to this round of competition. Out of 331 teams in the Northeast Region, Team CrossFit Southie finished tied for 19th place, earning an invited to the big show. In the age of “Super Teams” and recruiting athletes to train year-round for this one event, we are one of the only, if not THE only, squad of athletes that all train at the same physical box throughout the year AND have 40 hour work weeks. This is no small accomplishment! Sure, we may be sneaking into the competition in the last possible spot, but we are excited to go out there, have some fun, and give it all we’ve got 🙂

We could not be more proud of everybody’s hard work all year long and during the Open. There were many deserving athletes that contributed to the scores getting the team to Regional as well as pushed/encouraged supported those athletes. We wouldn’t have a squad competing without all of you! Choosing a team is always tough because we have so many talented athletes at CFS. This year, it got even harder when the format was switched from six athletes to four.  Our team is made up of incredibly well-rounded, hard working athletes who each contributed several scores to help qualify the team. We are psyched to have Daniela Bitto, Jen Merinder, Matt Martinez & Brendan Caslin represensting us this year! If you see them around the gym, be sure to give them a high five and wish them luck.

If you’ve never been to Regionals, we highly recommend you clear your calendar and make the trip. It’s an awesome opportunity to see the best in our sport battle it out for a trip to the CrossFit Games. More importantly, it’s a fun weekend filled with cheering on the Southie squad, mingling with CrossFitters from around the Northeast and Canada, and checking out lots of cool vendors and companies. You won’t want to miss it! There has been some interest in carpooling and arranging group travel. If you’re interested in making the trip to Albany, please post to comments to coordinate with others. Don’t forget to wear your Southie green!

When: May 18-20
Where: Times Union Center in Albany, New York

We’ve had a few people reach out about helping support the Southie Squad on their trip to Regionals. Unfortunately, the whole experience can get pretty expensive. If you’d like to make a donation to support the squad, click here. 100% of donations will go directly to the Southie team to help cover the costs of travel, lodging, etc. We appreciate your support and generosity!

Let’s go Team Southie!

Love that TBT pic! I’d love to make the trip out to Albany for Regionals but don’t have a car. If I could hitch a ride with someone, could you please let me know? Thanks so much and best of luck the CFS team!
