Mariah Lombard
Biography:
Fitness and exercise have been a part of my life for well over a decade. I started as an equestrian at eight years old and along the way found myself involved with CrossFit and eventually getting my Level 1 to coach. I moved to South Boston in October 2019 and was fortunately given the opportunity to work at CrossFit Southie as a coach, and I’ve loved every second of it. I received a degree in Exercise Physiology & Health from the University of Connecticut in 2018 and begin the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at MGH Institute of Health Professions in June 2020.

Years as a crossfitter and coach?
I took my first class my sophomore year of high school. I got more involved and consistent my junior year of college when I was able to drive to a gym close to school, and have been in love since. I got my level 1 in June 2018 and have coached at two other boxes before coming to CrossFit Southie.
Your favorite part of being a crossfit coach?
Definitely the social aspect. Not only do you get to encourage and motivate athletes of all ages and backgrounds, you get to teach them how to properly perform movements and continuously improve their workouts and overall well-being. You also get to meet so many fun and interesting people and make friends that have similar interests as you. The community that CrossFit creates is something extremely unique to the sport that you don’t find often elsewhere.
Your Favorite WOD and Movement?
Holleyman, any type of clean or squat
Athletic background
I rode horses for over 8 years and did track & field in high school.
Small piece of advice for Newbies and/or Veteran athletes.
Newbies – don’t be afraid of CrossFit or ask questions! I’ve had so many people tell me “I’m not ready for CrossFit” or “I need to get in better shape before I try it” – you are perfectly ready right now! There is a scale for every movement that we can assure you will feel comfortable with and there are people in your exact position that are out here crushing it. It’s so much fun and super motivating to be surrounded by people doing the same workout as you, no matter what movement or scaling option it is. Everyone is here to support each other and us coaches are all here to help, so please don’t be afraid to try it or ask for help!
