Coach Justin Horine

Classes you currently coach?

I’ve been coaching a couple of classes on Saturday; if you don’t see me there, you can find me participating in the 5 AM class Monday-Friday.

Years as a crossfitter and coach?

I’ve been doing CrossFit for a little over two years now. I started CrossFit up at CrossFit Ironspider in Salem while finishing grad school at Endicott. Eventually moved down to Dorchester and joined CrossFit Southie, where I’ve been for the past year. I passed my L1 in September and started coaching in December.

Your favorite part of being a CrossFit coach?

Since starting CrossFit, I’ve always looked up to and appreciated the coaching I’ve received on a weekly basis. My goal is to help share and teach everything I’ve learned over the years and help the CrossFit Southie community with their respective CrossFit journeys.

Your Favorite WOD and Movement?

My favorite movement is a tie between a Snatch and a Bar Muscle-Up. My favorite workout has to be Annie (50,40,30,20,10) Dubs & Sit-ups; I probably did this almost every Friday when I first started; a simple but effective workout.

Athletic background (sports you played in high school and/or college)

Growing up, I played Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse. Eventually went on to play Division III lacrosse at Endicott College up in Beverly, Massachusetts, as a 4-year varsity athlete and captain.

Small piece of advice for Newbies and/or Veteran athletes

Don’t be intimidated by CrossFit or the community; whether you’re doing CrossFit to stay in shape, be a better person, compete, etc., embrace the journey and have fun. There’s no better community out there than CrossFit Southie.

Fun Fact, most people don’t know about you.

While finishing Grad-School up at Endicott, I drove the Zamboni for the Men’s Ice Hockey Team.

What do you enjoy about the CFS Community?

I can’t say enough about the CFS community; my favorite part of the day is showing up for class, minus the 4:30 AM wake-up; I still haven’t gotten used to that. But the atmosphere, people, and events make the challenging workouts and new skills that much easier and more enjoyable.
