Biography:

Sebastian

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Sebastian started his running career at the age of ten, when he was mentored by his aunt and coach, Maralyn H. West, a former manager for national teams at the Olympics, World Cup Games, Pan American Games and elsewhere. Sebastian began competing at the age of fifteen, and learned the fundamentals of running efficiency and interval training from his first distance coach, a physics teacher.

Sebastian progressed to compete in hundreds of races, endurance events and performance competitions, including middle distance / track, 5ks, 10ks, half marathons, trail races, obstacle races, mud runs, mountaineering and high altitude climbing.  He completed his first marathon at the age of eighteen and his own personal records include a 0:56  400m, a 2:07  800m, a 4:30  1600m, and a 16:38  5k road race.

Sebastian joined CrossFit Southie in January of 2012 in preparation to climb Mount Ranier, and has been an integral member since.  Sebastian can be found training at the box most days, or judging local and regional CrossFit competitions, where he is known for being stern but fair.

Outside of CrossFit, he has been a valued member of the November Project, where he has his own workout named after him, and was one of the founding members of Boston Brunch Runners.  In addition to his own running accomplishments, Sebastian has been coaching athletes for more than ten years and finds that his proudest moments occur when his athletes PR in training or in competition. Sebastian has a true passion for all aspects of running, be it recreational, coaching, analyzing, training or competing, as he finds that it is the purest form of human athleticism.
