How did you get involved in CrossFit? What was your first WOD/experience?
I saw a commercial for CrossFit Reebok and it seemed like a good work out. So, I did some searching and found CrossFit Southie. I tried the free class on a Saturday and all I can say is that I survived and got hooked on it. For a few days after, I was very sore and BENGAY became my friend. But, I signed up and started taking classes three days a week.
When did you start coming to CrossFit Southie?
I started CrossFit Southie; I think it was January or February of 2012.
This is the first CrossFit I have worked out in and I have been here for almost a year.
When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?
I realized crossfit southie was right for me because after a few classes you could see how great the staff and the other members are. Everyone is so helpful and just when you think you can’t do another pull-up or what-ever they encourage you. Also, after a few months you could feel the difference. You are stronger and you start noticing muscle that you didn’t think you had.
What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals?
My short term goal was to do pull-ups without a band. I have conquered the pull up. Also, doing a hang power clean. I could not connect the movement for the longest time. But, as I got stronger I finally did it. My long term goal is to do chest to bar without a band.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment besides conquering the pull-up is when I finish any of the WOD’S.
What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?
My favorite WOD is any workout that doesn’t have weights in it. My least favorite WOD is any work out with weights.
What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?
I have been a Boston Police Officer for 17 years in District 4 which encompass South End, Back Bay, Fenway and Lower Roxbury. I am currently a Community Service Officer and the Liaison to the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community.
What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
I like to travel and any time I can hang out with family friends.
Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?
I don’t really follow Paleo or Zone. I do make a great breakfast smoothie with kale, mixed fruit, almond butter, coconut milk, avocado and protein powder.
I have been married for 4 years; my husband (Pedro) is a retired Sergeant from New York Police Department. Who during September 11, 2001 help rescue many people when the towers collapsed. Also, I had the pleasure of escorting Attorney Marry Bonauto to City Hall Plaza on May 17, 2004, When the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled in favor of Gay Marriage. Not really fun fact but part of history.
