Amy/Goose,

As I said tonight to both of you tonight THANK YOU. I just got back from an EPIC ski trip out to Big Sky, Montana!! Big Sky is an amazing place I was lucky enough to call home for almost two years after college. In those two years I skied almost every day in the winter and mountain biked almost every day in the summer. All in all I skied over 200 days and as a result was in pretty good shape. 2008 my early retirement (as my Mom called it) was over. I came back to Boston and started working in Finance, continued drinking beer (lots of it), and not going to the gym. Thanksgiving 2011 I was (looking back) a mess: 150 lbs, double chin, heartburn, high cholesterol, hypertension and a month short of 28 years old. NO GOOD!! Then one day at the office that dreaded peer pressure got to me and I signed up for a Tough Mudder. Right after I clicked submit on the signup page I realized, in an oh shit moment, that I had no chance of completing a Tough Mudder if I didn’t make some major changes. I went into BSC that day after work and signed up for a trainer and was, as chance would have it, paired with a crossfitter (Beth Rogers – who coincidentally now works with Haley at Again Faster). When i started going the following week she had me doing these “crazy” workouts which I eventually came to know as WOD’s. I couldn’t do a pull-up and my air squat was ugly at best. Fast forward and I lost 20lbs, started eating Paleo and cutting back on beers (not necessarily in that order). This past August I finally caved to Beth’s pressure and joined a real Crossfit gym. It has been one of the best things I have ever done and I haven’t looked back since!! This past week in Big Sky I was able to confidently ski some lines that I was too scared to even attempt when they were literally in my backyard. Looking back up at a towering 1,500 foot couloir you just skied is really a special moment. It is worlds better when your legs still feel strong and not like they are going to die. I owe you guys/and all the other coaches at CFS for that!! The CFS family you have created is really special and something I cherish. Even though I might feel the worst the hour I spend at CFS is the best hour of my day! Anyway, I have attached some pictures form the trip.

Enjoy,
Joel
