Charlie Says…CrossFit Opens

CrossFit Opens
The Crossfit Open is the first round of the CrossFit Games and consists of 1 workout each week over the course of 5 weeks.ย  In the coming month and a half we will be re-testing Open workouts from previous years to prepare and get in the Open spirit.ย  Some days we will even partner up and judge each other, so you are all familiar with the process.ย  When the open officially starts, on the 27th of February, we will be completing these workouts in classes on Fridays as the Workout of the Day.ย  There is no reason for you to not sign up, as you will be attending class anyway, right?

What’s the point, I don’t plan on making it to Regionals you say?ย  The Open is fun!ย  It is designed so you push yourself to your limit, see how you improve year to year and find out the areas where you could use some extra improvement, making your training more focused in the next coming year.ย ย ย  Additionally, if a wheelhouse WOD comes up and you crush it, your score will be contributed to the team and can help send 2 CrossFit Southie teams to Regionals this year!

We will have more info describing the Open, how to sign up, how to contribute to the team, etc.. in coming weeks.ย  Keep training hard and get excited!

Last year: 230 with box jumps.
This year: 248 with step ups.
If it shows up again in the opens I’m going with step ups for sure. Helped me keep a steadier pace.

Last year first attempt with all box jumps, 225. Second attempt with all step-ups, 256.
This year with 2 rounds of jumps and the rest with step-ups, 243.
Step-ups are the way to go for me.

Oh and did a cash out with Jason and Mad Dog (Coach Alec):
100 strict barbell presses with 30 second L sit holds after every 25 reps.

        01/24/2014 @ 1:17 pm

I was wondering what you HTKers were doing – a little extracurricular activity.

Working on a goat. Anything overhead is a weakness for me so I’m trying to focus my cash outs on improving those deficiencies. Strict press seems like a good place to start to build strength for any OH movement.

That’s awesome dude. I plan on doing more of that this year to help overcome some of my goats (shoulder strength, box jumps (rebounding), HSPU, TTB). Seeing you guys do that really gives me the motivation to get that going.

      Liveda lookin’ jacked!

258 with step ups. Hard to picture how the big dogs got 12+ rounds last year.

I was going to say the same thing…Liveda is looking awesome! This was the one Open WOD I didn’t get to do last year. Looking forward to giving it a try today and based on all these comments I am DEFINITELY going to do step ups.

          PJ:215 x 3
          WOD:239
          as compared to 3/17/2013 – 218

          Kelly had perfect step ups.

          Right Foot up
          Left foot up
          Right Foot down
          Left Foot down
          Left foot up
          Right foot up
          Left foot down
          Right foot down
          Repeat

You don’t waste time transitioning feet and you can just tap and come back up. Also keeps the work evenly split between both legs.
