Staying CrossFit Fresh

I think about Pat everyday. When I want to stop mid-WOD, I think about him right there next to me pushing me further.  He may not be here physically but he lives on in each of us.  I can even hear him rubbing it in my face on how he crushed me on 16.1.  Here’s a throwback blog posted two years ago from our main man…

Fashion within CrossFit is a real thing. It’s a real topic, and we all think about it on some level. Now I’m writing this from the perspective of a male, so sorry if I miss the female mark a little bit, ladies. This topic can be slightly overwhelming so I will be breaking it down into subsections. Today we are going to start with the everyday, average week at the gym.

Everyday when you go to the good ol’ CFS, you do have to wear some sort of workout gear, right? (Rhetorical, you don’t need to answer.) Now even if you are the most casual of fashionistas, you still have your favorite shorts or the pants that make your butt look its finest, so you are going to lean towards those a little more than your bottom of the barrel, “damn I need to do laundry and I cant believe all I have left that’s clean to wear are these junkie old things” …as any sane person would.

Look. The bottom line is this: you look good, you feel good. You feel good, you do good, and we all want to do good. So you search through your ocean of 638 CrossFit t-shirts that you’ve acquired over the years and pretty much stick to the same 12 every week or two (we all do this) and you walk into the box feeling pretty solid… that is until, the day you show up and someone has the new Nanos on. Now you’re like “Son of a @#*%! Now I want the new Nanos!”

Beards are Pat’s favorite fashion accessory

Do you need them? No, your shoes are like 5 months old, but the person who has them looks so cool and is more than likely going to PR their deadlift by about 250lbs, so now you need them, too. You get them and add to your growingly insane collection of sneakers that are taking over your closet, room, house, trunk of your car. You find sneakers in the bathroom, kitchen cabinets, in the pockets of old jeans. It’s getting out of hand.

However, now you feel like your look and outfit are complete. You are good to go; you need no new gear for the foreseeable future. Until that boy/girl you have a small crush on starts showing up at your class every week. Now you need to revamp everything from the bottom up. You need to try to look cute (while you’re straining, sweating, choking, screaming, and occasionally dying), all while being as functional as possible. So it’s a trip to Reebok or Lulu to spend a small fortune and get your wardrobe looking its best.

In all serious, at the end of the day, try not to worry about it too much. I do most of my workouts in shorts and an undershirt. It wont affect your performance much, if ever. That’s all for now… my arms are literally getting sore from typing this due to yesterday’s workout. Tune in next time when we discuss competition fashion. TIME! That was a PR for typing.
