Interested in competing in CrossFit? Signed up for the Garage Games in Milford, CT in October or Southie in November? Are you looking at possibly entering the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games Opens in February? Does the thought of competing in CrossFit make you throw up in your mouth a little? If you answered yes to any of these questions then here is something you will want to be at!
Starting at 9am this Saturday, October 15, along with help from the rest of the Southie staff, I will be leading weekly sessions covering everything you need to know about competing. The great thing about CrossFit is that so many people can compete, from local all the way to the international stage. The purpose for these meetings: to build a better understanding of what it means to compete in CrossFit, prepare people of all abilities for competition, start building camaraderie around the community for the 2012 Games Season. We will be covering topics like how to work on individual weaknesses, mental skills development specific for CrossFit, how to set realistic goals and how to achieve them, and many other things aimed at preparing you for competition. These sessions will work as a series aimed at prepping competitors for the Southie Garage Games in November and continuing through February and the start of the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Opens.
While these sessions are by no means mandatory for people who want to compete, anyone and everyone interested in competing are encouraged to come and learn something each week. Each session has its own focus and won’t be repeated or made up without very specific and necessary arrangements with your coaches. There will be weekly tasks that are geared at making you a better crossfitter so come ready to learn and do a little work on the side.
There will not be WODs during these sessions. They will start promptly at 9am on Saturday and end promptly at 930. There will be discussion on weaknesses and goal setting but working on these things will be done at other times (open gym, before, during, and after class, etc.). We want to get everyone who wants to compete to do so and to enjoy the experience. Then once the international Open series starts in February we want Southie to represent and hopefully send a bunch of individuals and a kick ass team to Regionals and the Games! There is no better time to start getting better than right now.
Note: We have advanced workouts that start right at 730am on Saturday for anyone who wants to get more advanced work and cannot make the 230pm sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. Remember, there is no coaching during these sessions, so come on time and ready to work. Anyone that participates is encouraged to stay for the 9am seminar. You do not need to attend the advanced training sessions to attend the 9am Saturday seminar.
If you are unsure whether you are capable of competing from an ability standpoint and whether or not these sessions are for you, feel free to ask the coaches about their thoughts and what you might need to work on.
See you all at 9am on Saturday!
2pm competitors class is for coaches only today as we will be dabbling in the garage games WODs.

A great part of the CrossFit program is being able to measure progress. Today we are giving you that opportunity by retesting Open WOD 11.1 . Just last week, 11.1 came up as our first ever advanced hopper WOD and everyone crushed their old scores. We must be doing something right. Here are your old results. Now it’s your turn. Post rounds and reps to comments.
