2018 Open Recap!!
The 2018 CrossFit Open is officially closed! We want to congratulate everyone who participated in the Open this year. It’s not easy to put yourself out there, we had a lot of first time participants and many returning athletes for a total of 186 members registered!

We loved seeing your enthusiasm and hard work every week. From Thursday night announcements to Friday Night lights and Monday Re-Tests, your support for each other and hard work did not go unnoticed. Every year the open grows with programming and difficulty and you all stepped up to the challenge, we hope you’re as proud of yourselves as we are of you!

The best part of Open season is never about winning. It’s about pushing yourselves to do something out of your comfort zone and doing things you never thought possible. We saw so many people pushing to complete workouts as prescribed even though they thought they’d do the scaled division!
It seemed like every week we had something to celebrate

  • First Toes To Bar
  • New 1RM Clean after sprinting through a brutal couplet
  • Double Unders and MUSCLE UPS
  • Handstand Push ups and heavy deadlifts
  • Chest to bar pull ups and 11.6 PRs

There were so many opportunities for everyone to push themselves and you all did not disappoint!

We brought back our Internal Open Team Competition once again! All Open participants were assigned to a team. Each week, the team was ranked based on their performance in that week’s workout. We had lots of fun creating team names, taking team photos, and getting to know some new friends over the five weeks. You can check out official team standings HERE

At the end of it all, Team “Busy Saving Babies” led by coach Bish came out on top! Shout out to team “Zack Attack” for their epic team video that won the “Rally The Troops” bonus challenge! Also, a huge thank you to coaches Tom K and Brownie. They worked really hard to configure our scoring system, adding scores in every week and making our leaderboard look amazing. We couldn’t have done this without you guys!

The CrossFit Southie team is still in the hunt for a spot at Regionals. Once Individuals competitors have accepted their Regional invites, the leaderboard will shift. This could bump the team into the top 20 and send the Southie squad to Regionals for the 7th time!! Keep your fingers crossed!

We also want to send out a huge congratulations to our own Brian Campbell and Cindy Ewing for moving on to the next round of competition, the Masters Online Qualifier! In order to move on to the next round, you have to place in the top 200 in the WORLD in your age division. Brian finished in 85th place out of 26946 competitors in the 40-44 Division. Cindy finished in 180th place out of 2162 competitors in the 60+ division. Both Cindy and Brian improved and moved up the leaderboard from their placing last year!! This is an amazing accomplishment and we are so proud of them! They will be training hard to get ready for the next phase of competition which kicks off in late April. Congratulations and best of luck to Brian & Cindy!
