We have lost one of our own

joe gage

I am extremely sad to report that Joe Gage, a member of CrossFit Southie since December of 2011, passed on Monday night. Joe was extremely kind and hard working. You could always catch him smiling every class, even when WOD was terrible. Joe had come a long way as an athlete over the past year, he was great to coach and  fun to watch progress.  Joe will be deeply missed.

Mike Bradly, co-owner of CrossFit Boston, was a very close friends of Joe’s. We are very sorry for Mike’s loss. Mike gave us these words to share:

Joe was born and raised in New Hampshire,  he was an over achiever at heart,  always striving to be the best in his field.  No matter whether it was sports,  career, or a simple game of scrabble,  Joe always strived to be the best. Joe went to college in Connecticut, and after college,  he began taking his exams to become an actuary.  Joe had a very successful career at Liberty Mutual and AIG.  Joe was very active in Volleyball and CrossFit.

Joe and I first met in our very early 20’s,  more than a decade ago.  We met as we became roommates, Joe was quite the opposite of myself,  he was very shy,  and I was quite the party animal.  I remember when I first met him,  I thought this was never going to work,  we are total opposites!  Quickly,  we both realized how much we actually had in common, and we became the best of friends.  Throughout the years of knowing Joe, one thing is for certain,  he would have given his right arm to help anyone at anytime.  Joe had a kind and giving heart,  and I am very blessed to have shared the time that I was able to with him.   Joe would want his CrossFit Southie family to know that he loved them,  and he loved CrossFit.  Two of Joe’s favorite CrossFit movements are OHS and Rope Climbs.  If I had one thing to say to Joe today,  it would be “You are my brother,  you are my friend, I will love you,  even past the end”

We are going to honor Joe with a WOD in his memory during classes this Saturday. Please try to make it in and give it your all.
