It may be time for new shoes!

New Inov8s!

When I first started CrossFit I had been wearing the same style of Asics running shoes for 8 years. I thought they were the only shoes that would fit my feet. Every other shoe that I put on would cause me discomfort, and I figured it was because there wasn’t enough support. I had an insane number of overuse injuries resulting from running, and in an attempt to fix myself, I decided to ditch my running shoes and try the Vibram Five Finger Shoes . I wore them EVERYWHERE. This was a year and a half ago too, so no one had really seen them yet…I got a lot of stares. Going “barefoot” all the time, especially when running, allowed my feet and calves to strengthen and even out all the imbalances I had developed over the years. I am now injury free and will never put on a pair of running shoes ever again. They are the reason why runners have bad knees, feet, and ankles. If you don’t believe me read the book  Born to Run , it will completely change your perspective.

The shoe in the picture is made by the company Inov8. They are super light and have no support or cushioning; a great alternative to the Vibram Five Fingers. They are great for weight-lifting and running, which makes them perfect for CrossFit. However, any flat shoe is better for lifting than running shoes. I would rather see you wear a pair of Keds from Walmart then running shoes when squating. Running shoes will push you onto your toes and throw off your balance drastically. You want to be able to feel the ground and drive through your heals!

Just some food for thought…..
