Regionals Recap

Wow, what a weekend! It’s hard to believe that the 2015 competition season is already over, and we could not be more proud of the CrossFit Southie team for their representation at the East Regional this past weekend. This year, the team piccompetition at Regionals was tougher than ever. When the Open started, 675 teams competed across the Northeast and Canada East, all vying for 30 spots at the East Regional. The top 30 teams showed up in Hartford, CT last weekend to throwdown, and CrossFit Southie more than held their own – coming out with an 8th place finish! We are so impressed with and proud of the team!

The weekend started off in an exciting fashion, with CrossFit Southie finishing first place in their heat on event 1. They ended day one in 14th place overall, but climbed their way back up the leaderboard to finish in the top 10 at the end of the weekend. Each team member contributed and had their own share of exciting moments: Hyatt’s 245# snatch to kick off Event 4, Goose & Tinamo’s perfectly timed synchronized chest to bar pull ups to close out Event 1, Bish’s 10 unbroken muscle ups to kick off Event 6, Mel flying through her wallballs on Event 3, or Julie running across the floor on her hands in Event 5… the list goes on and on. The entire weekend was truly a team effort and we are so proud of the way these athletes represented the gym all weekend long, always with a smile on their faces.

We can’t talk about the weekend without saying a huge THANK YOU to the entire Southie community for their support. We were blown away by the amount of people who made the drive down to Connecticut to support the team in person. The cheers were so loud whenever CrossFit Southie was mentioned that the announcers had to stop talking to let the cheering subside, and the Southie cheering squad frequently appeared on the jumbotron and live feed. Absolutely nothing beats looking into the crowd and seeing a sea of Southie Green before taking on a tough event. We cannot thank you enough!

The support extended far beyond those in Hartford. We heard your cheers from the mobility room here at the gym, or from behind your computer screens at your office. Thank you so much for your calls, emails, facebook posts, and positive thoughts. The community at CrossFit Southie is unmatched and we cannot thank you all enough for your support. Thank you!!

And now, onto 2016!
