Gwen Zarnock – Sporting the Belt

Gwen is extremely modest, hard working and tough as nails!  She never complains and is absolutely tenacious during WODs.  She is super friendly with everyone and on multiple occasions has volunteered many hours of her time to help out with CFS functions.  She has made strides since she started CrossFit and continues to put her head down and do WORK!!!  We love Gwen and we are proud to have her as a part of our community and Congratulate her on her well deserved MEMBER OF THE MONTH!

How did you get involved in CrossFit?

It was a combination of boredom and jealousy.  I was bored with the typical gym workout and when my husband described his crossfit workouts, I got jealous.  He was having a great time doing something different every workout.  I wanted to try it.  I did and it was exactly what I was looking for.

What was your first WOD/experience?  I can’t remember but I’m sure I was hurting the next day.

When did you start coming to CrossFit Southie?  Last October

Is this the first CrossFit you’ve worked out at / how long have you been CrossFitting for?

Yep, this is my one and only Crossfit experience.  I’ve been coming for 10 months.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you? Immediately

What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals? Oh my, there are so many. Well, I’d love to get to the top of the rope and of course do an unassisted pull-up. Hopefully, I can get that before Christmas.

What is your biggest accomplishment? Hey, when you start at the beginning, every workout  brings a new accomplishment, but I’d say finally linking double unders.  It feels great to be able to do them.

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement? I hate to play favorites but I guess kettle bell swings would be it/ least favorite without a doubt is burpees.

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?I teach ESL to foreign university students
What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? I enjoy kayaking  and  hanging out with friends

Do you eat Paleo or Zone? I eay paleo about 85-90% of the time

What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal? I make a turkey/eggplant/veggie combo to die for.   My favorite non-paleo meal is pad thai.

Fun fact? I have a fabulous sense of direction yet I can’t tell my left from my right.
