Coaches Corner – Coach Sarah Wakeman
Coach Sarah Wakeman was born and raised in the Boston area, but it was during her time down in North Carolina at Duke that she first discovered CrossFit. Sarah grew up an athlete, competing nationally in gymnastics and diving but also running track and playing soccer and softball. When she got to college, she found that she missed the team sports environment and wasn’t enjoying her monotonous gym routine. In 2009 a friend suggested she give CrossFit a try, and she dropped in to the local Durham box for a WOD – benchmark workout Cindy. 20 minutes later, exhausted but excited, she was hooked. Sarah has been a Crossfitter now for 8 years and loves everything about the sport – the gains, the challenges, and most importantly the friends.
Sarah’s’ favorite part of CrossFit is the community. She wouldn’t be where she is today without the friends who have pushed her and cheered her on in every WOD, and without the help of some really incredible coaches over the years. Now as a coach herself, she wants to pay this knowledge and passion forward — to both CF newbies and veterans. One of her favorite parts of coaching is helping people try new things, and sharing in their excitement as they learn just how much their bodies are capable of!
