What are you training for?

*The box will be closed this upcoming weekend for a L1 cert.  Classes will be held down the track on Saturday and Sunday.  There will be no intro class on Saturday but feel free to bring a friend to the track either day.  Saturday classes will be at 9am,10am and 11am and will include the mile run test and a short wod after.  Classes will be held at 10am and 11am on Sunday Funday.*

Each of you come in, day in and day out, and work your buns off at CFS.  But, for what?  Make your training mean something.  Why not write the check and sign up for a local competition?

In doing so, you are going to be held accountable, not only by your self but by everyone you let know you are participating in the competition.  This will do wonders for your training.

If you want to get better, put your self out there.  Step out of your comfort zone.  Even if you come in last, who cares?  At the end of the day you are only competing with yourself.  I personally sign up for every competition I possibly can because it keeps me on track, it makes me a better, more focused athlete.  If I didn’t, I wouldn’t train as hard to prepare.  You would find me at Stats every night slugging bears and hitting up Pan Asia on the way home (Brian Boyson).

To add to that, the workouts at these competitions are programmed by someone else and if there is one I don’t want to do I can’t just skip it like I can a class.  These competitions force me to do the things I suck at.  Knowing this, going in to future competitions, it forces me to focus my training on my weaknesses.

Scared?  That’s normal.  Don’t worry, it’s like any other day at the gym.  These competitions are friendly and everyone is very supportive.  It’s a great way to bond with people from the box as well as folks in the greater CrossFit community.  Still not convinced?  Well best part is,  you can do one in the comfort of your own box.   Our Garage Games event (11/10 -11/11)  is available to the broader community but we put on this event especially to get all of you involved.  We even have a scaled division that we created with each and everyone of you in mind, we encourage everyone to sign up!  Take a look at the skill requirements here.  If you are interested but unsure which division to sign up for ask your coaches for some insight.

Registration starts Friday at noon and will be sure to sell out in just a few days.  Click here to write the check now and reap the benefits later.   Want to sit this one but be a part of the action?  Volunteer!  We are going to need plenty of judges and extra hands this weekend.  email info@crossfitsouthie.com if you would like to lend a helping hand for one or both days.

3 Rounds
500m Row
12 Bodyweight Deadlifts
21 Box Jumps

We would like to see you working as close to your body weight as possible. Please weigh in before the WOD. If you have been here less than a month we want you to do 1/2 -3/4 your body weight. If you have been here for less than 3 months we want you doing 3/4-body weight. We will give you plenty of time to warm up and decide on an appropriate weight for the workout.

Last time, I went over the time cap and finished in 21 min and had to take weight off for the dead lifts halfway through. All my classmates had packed up and gone home by the time I was done… It was brutal! Today, 16:31 RX and everyone was still there when I finished- ha ha. Everyone did great at 630am! thanks to Brian for being a good judge!

13:43 , down from 14:00 in February. Aiming for 13:00 or under next time. I’ll just have to row my little legs off between now and then.

  • Jay

After working out last night, I literally went to a bar and then ate Pan Asia. I think that’s a sign that I need to do garage games.

    • Kelly

Compared to February: 41 seconds slower but bodyweight meant 15 pounds heavier weight. EEEEK. I’m gonna assume it’s all muscle and I still look good? Zone diet here I come!

Loved the cheering in the 6:30am class.

    • Kara

It’s muscle!! Thank god there were enough weights in the box for both of us to load up our bars at the same time…

  • AJ

First time ‘Doing’ Christine…man she was a tough one…
    Happy Bday Goose!

  • L Lebo

15:13, 13 sec slower than last time and made me want to die. (Happy hour nachos=questionable choice before a workout, who knew?!) Rach, thanks for holding my hand through that one!

  • Laura

13:30….way more tough than I thought it was going to be. Deadlift at 115 pounds, and a small box for box jumps. Drinking a corona with lime in preparation for upcoming Paleo challenge..sigh

  • Kristin

12:53 Rx improved from 13:35 at the end of February. First day back at Southie since being out of town for 2 months. So glad to be back. Looking forward to the mile run tomorrow. Happy B’day Goose.
